Have you ever
watched people dance a cool sexy version of swing and wondered what it was?
It was probably West Coast Swing. It has gained a huge popularity
through-out the country. It is so popular, that hundreds of
conventions and contests are held around the country every year. West Coast
Swing is a truly American dance. It started forming in the late 40's, after
World War II, and has continued to evolve to the new dance form that it is
today. It can be danced to a wide variety of music, including Blues, R&B,
Jazz, Pop, and Country. If you are interested
in learning West Coast Swing, you have definitely come to the right place.
Mark Harris is a U.S. Open Swing Dance Championships Award Winner, and an 8
time State Swing Dance Champion
and was 1st in the Nation on the Masters Tour (Masters National Swing Dance
Championships) for ten months during 2008!
Mark has a vast background in dance. He was a Judging Coordinator for the Oklahoma/Kansas State Swing Dance
Association, a former State Director of the NTA (National Teacher
Association), and was a Co-Event Director of Dancin' Up A Storm For The
Shrine Hospital For Children, and the Heartland Dance Festival & KC Swing
Challenge. Mark was a featured dancer in the feature film, "Blog, The
Movie."
Mark teaches
West Coast Swing group classes every Wednesday night at
Walters Dance Center. There
is a Beginner Class at 6:30 P.M., which is followed by a
Beginning/Intermediate class at 7:10 P.M., an Intermediate/Advanced class at
8:10 P.M., and open dancing (practice time) till 11:00 P.M. The cost for the
entire evening is only $8/person.
If you prefer to learn at a faster rate, or outside of
group classes, Mark is available for
Private Dance Lessons. The cost for
